Woodhouse x Sympany
We are excited to announce our partnership with Sympany, a renowned Dutch organization committed to the circular economy. Together with them and you, we are taking a step towards a greener future by stimulating recycling, and of course we are happy to reward you for these ecological efforts.
How does collection work at Holzhaus?
Recycling for rewards: We believe in the power of collective action, which is why we have introduced a recycling initiative in our store. As a valued customer, you can now bring your old jeans to our store and put them in our recycling bin. For every pair of jeans you bring in, we will thank you by crediting a €5 reward directly to your customer account. Here’s how it works:
Het werkt als volgt:
-
We understand that time is not always on your side. That’s why we’ve made sure your recycling rewards have no expiration date. You can choose to save your credits for later or pass them on to a friend/family member so they can experience the benefits of sustainable shopping too.
Sympany: Fabric to raw material. What happens to my old jeans?
Through our partnership with Sympany, we are investing in the future of our planet and invite you to join us. By recycling your old jeans, you can help us reduce waste, save resources and protect the environment.
Sympany collects around 20 million kilos of clothing per year. They sell what is re-wearable, and recycle what is left. The money they earn from selling re-wearable textiles is needed to finance their primary process. The money that is left, they invest in recycling and innovation.
Together with their partners, they can make more and more from old textiles. From cleaning cloth and insulation material to new yarns, but they are not there yet. For many textiles, there is still no sales or recycling possibility. They are working hard on new solutions together with others, so that something valuable can be made from every piece of fabric.
The current process is as follows:
Sympany sorts the waste from the collected items, which is about 10%. The textiles are sorted into different qualities and categories. This is done by their own sorters. About 70% is re-wearable and the remaining 20% is of recycling quality.
The non-reusable textiles are processed together with partners into raw materials and used for new products. A large part is still processed "low-grade" into, for example, cleaning rags or hat racks, but Sympany is now focusing a lot on "high-grade recycling". With partners such as SaXcell, they put the circular textile chain into practice; cotton of recycled quality is recycled into new high-grade cellulose yarn.
